Engaging Islam: An Introduction MCC 545 01

This course provides an overview of Islam, including its beginnings and expansion, the beliefs and practices of formal and folk Islam, Islamic sects, the identity of women, Islam in the United States, global Islam today and bridges for communicating with Muslims.

Folk Islam & Power Encounter MCC 554

1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Instructor: David Arzouni

A study of the development of popular Islam within the world of official Islam, emphasizing an understanding and analysis of the felt needs of ordinary Muslims. Special attention will be given to the role of spiritual power encounter as a tool in evangelizing Muslims.

Church Planting in a Muslim Context MCC 643

8:00 a.m. – Noon
Instructor: Dick Brogden

A study of the planting of churches in restricted contexts, particularly noting the backdrop of theological, cultural and spiritual issues. Principles for establishing evangelistic and discipleship ministries in Muslim societies will be explored. Special attention will be given to the unique process of establishing the church within an Islamic culture.

Ministry to Muslims in Urban Context MSS 639 03

1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Instructor: Mark Hausfeld

This course establishes the need for carefully-strategized evangelization of Muslims. A study of the fundamentalist monotheistic and pluralistic urban world of the Scriptures help explain the nature of Islam in historical and contemporary urban contexts. Cultural and sociological dynamics of Muslims in cities shed light on felt needs and opportunities to introduce Christ. This course indicates how to develop local theologies and missiological strategies and introduces models of successful urban mission to Muslims.

FRED FARROKH

  • International trainer with Global Initiative: Reaching Muslim Peoples
  • Served as executive director of Jesus for Muslims Network in metro New York and special projects officer with SAT-7 in Cyprus
  • Completed PH.D. in Intercultural Studies through the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (2014); dissertation topic: Perceptions of Muslim Identity: A Case Study Among Muslim-Born Persons in Metro New York

DAVID ARZOUNI

  • A former Shi’a Muslim from a Lebanese family; he came to know Christ as a young man in Dakar, Senegal (West Africa) through the ministry of Don Corbin (AGWM Missionary)
  • Served as AGWM missionaries for 44 years in Ivory Coast and Mali, West Africa. Focused on pioneer evangelism, church planting, teaching in Bible Schools, and ministry to unreached people groups in predominantly Islamic contexts
  • Has an MA in Biblical Studies from Regent University

DICK BROGDEN

  • Ministered 28 years in the Arab Muslim world planting churches
  • Co-founder of Live Dead Movement
  • PhD in Intercultural Studies through Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS)
  • Founder of 5 Business as Mission entities, 1 NGO, Multiple Partnerships
  • Author of Live Dead Joy, This Gospel, Missionary God Missionary Bible

MARK HAUSFELD

  • Former AGWM missionary to Pakistan
  • 25+ years of ministry to Muslims
  • MDiv, Assemblies of God Theological Seminary; DMin, Northern Baptist Theological Seminary
  • Currently serves as the President of PAK7
  • Former Director of the AGTS SIIS program

JOSE ARDON

  • Global Initiative: Reaching Muslim Peoples Coordinator for Latin American and the Caribbean
  • Served for 10 years as a missionary to Muslims in Eurasia and Bulgaria in partnership with Live Dead Silk Road
  • Professor at Bethel Bible Institute and Josue Biblical Institute in San Salvador since 2001
  • Pastor and missionary from the El Salvador Assemblies of God
