AGTS News: AGTS to celebrate "Knowledge on Fire" at 39th commencement
The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) will celebrate it's 39th annual commencement on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Central Assembly of God, Springfield, Mo. The public is invited to attend.
Seventy-five doctoral and masters degrees will be awarded to students from 25 states and 6 countries.
This year's commencement ceremony will feature a video presentation of Dr. Del Tarr, past president (1990-1999), as he guides the audience through the history of "Knowledge on Fire" at AGTS. During his tenure, Dr. Tarr championed the scholar/practitioner model of ministerial leadership as the combination that would take the church to new dimensions of theological astuteness and radical dependence on the Spirit of God. Tarr's video presentation will be interspersed with three speakers from the class of 2012 who will illustrate the ways in which "Knowledge on Fire" is played out in today's global context:
- Fernanda Vielma—Candidate for Master of Arts in Theological Studies, Missionary/Educator from Venezuela
- Doug Clark—Candidate for Doctor of Missiology, Missionary to Eurasia
- Bryan Jarrett—Candidate for Doctor of Ministry, Pastor at Northplace Church in Sachse, Texas
Other graduation events include a golf tournament on Thursday, May 3, the Intercultural Doctoral Studies Investiture Ceremony and the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) Symposium at AGTS on Friday, May 4 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. The Investiture and Symposium will be streamed live at agts.edu. The public is welcome to attend any of these events. Visit agts.edu/golf to register for the golf tournament.
At the D.Min. Symposium, 11 candidates will present summaries of field-based doctoral projects. Topics include: a biblical theology of the Holy Land, effective communication in a post-literary age; strengthening community service in the Church of God in Christ; compassion ministries; a new model for training Pentecostal evangelists; discipleship through scripture memorization.
