Master of Divinity In-Service Track

The Master of Divinity, In-Service Track (MDIVIS) is designed for students who are currently active in vocational ministry or lay ministers seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in biblical interpretation, preaching and leadership. The equivalent of one year of residency (27 credits) must be taken at the AGTS Main Campus in Springfield, Missouri. Up to half of the required credits (39) may be taken through distance learning.

Degree Requirements

The MDIV In-Service Track is a 78-credit degree with an identical curriculum to the resident MDIV program, which provides a seamless approach to integrative learning regardless of the geographic context in which the participant studies. While Advanced Standing is not available in the MDIVIS program, candidates who have completed a strong undergraduate program in religion will be eligible to substitute advanced courses for some of the foundation course requirements.

A prerequisite for the degree is one year of biblical Greek or its equivalent. This prerequisite may be met by taking Greek 1A and 1B in the first twelve months of study at AGTS. These credits do not apply toward the 78-credit program requirements.

Islamic Studies Concentration Option

The Islamic Studies Concentration provides the opportunity to develop competencies essential for effective ministry to Muslims.

Master of Divinity In-Service Track Degree Program Requirements

AGTS offers a distinctive two-track MDiv: one for those who have graduated from a secular college and another for those who have had substantial undergraduate work in Bible, theology and ministry. The first track offers students foundational courses in theological studies. The second track allows students to take advanced courses so as not to repeat courses already taken in their college programs.

The MDiv combines the biblical-theological emphasis of the MA in Theological Studies with the ministry relevance of the MA in Christian Ministries. It more thoroughly equips students for ministry, and—for those interested—future studies such as the DMin or PhD.

MDIV Degree Components and Requirements

  1. MDiv First Track Foundation Courses and Second Track Advanced Courses. All Foundation Courses are required.
  2. If a Foundation Course has been successfully completed with a grade of C or higher as an undergraduate, the student may take one of the Advanced Course options. (Several Foundation Courses define our educational vision and do not have alternatives.)
  3. Students who have not taken 6 credits of pre-seminary or basic Greek at the undergraduate level must take it during their first year at AGTS (Greek 1A and Greek 1B classes) in addition to the 78 credits required. If the student is unable to take Greek IA and IB through regular seated classes, the courses are also offered through student to student and faculty to student mediated Distance Learning courses.
