Continuing Education

The Office of Continuing Education program provides masters level learning opportunities for students who wish to remain in their life and ministry contexts. It also facilitates life-long learning and renewal through a variety of certificate programs.

Program Design

As an in-service program, course offerings are scheduled in a variety of formats to accommodate the life and ministry demands of the students. Offering seated and distance learning courses each semester provides the students with flexibility in scheduling their learning experiences.

Branch Campuses

  • AGTS Main Campus, Springfield, Missouri
  • AGTS West Branch Campus, Sacramento, California
  • CINCEL Site, Zapote, San Jose, Costa Rico
  • Continental Theological Seminary Site, Brussels, Belgium
  • Online Campus, Wherever you are

AGTS Continuing Education offers the following programs:

Master of Arts in Christian Ministries

This 45-credit degree program is an in-service degree that may be completed entirely at the AGTS Main and West campuses. Up to half of the credits (21 hours) may be taken through distance learning. Students who have completed a strong undergraduate program in religion may be eligible for 9 credits of Advanced Standing (See MACM Advanced Standing).

Master of Pastoral Leadership

This 48-credit degree program is an in-service degree offered at the AGTS Main campus only. It is delivered in a cohort model that blends face-to-face and online learning, providing students with an opportunity to take two courses per semester (6 credits) with only one week of required seat time. Students who have completed a strong undergraduate program in religion may be eligible for 12 credits of Advanced Standing (See MPL Advanced Standing).

Master of Divinity In-Service Track

This 78 credit program is an in-service degree offered from the AGTS Main campus, but allows a limited number of courses to be taken at any AGTS course location. Up to half of the credits (39) may be taken through distance learning. One third of the required credits (27) must be taken at the AGTS Main campus in any of its seated learning experiences.

Certificate Programs

This program offers professional development learning experiences for people who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills without the commitment to complete a full degree at AGTS. Certificates can be packaged in specific learning content, e.g. preaching, leadership, biblical studies, but may also be specialized to the participant’s wishes. Any AGTS course offering may be taken to complete the certificate program. Most certificates require participation in at least four courses to meet the certification standards. If a participant decides to pursue a degree program at AGTS, certificate courses may be converted to credit-bearing courses and applied, if applicable, to any AGTS degree program.

Distance Learning Courses

AGTS offers online learning experiences that provide students the opportunity to earn credits toward their degree programs without traveling to any of the course locations. All online courses provide faculty to student and student to student interaction through the Course Commons (Canvas) learning management system. Up to half of the credits in the MACM (21) and the MDiv In Service Track (39) degree programs may be taken through distance learning.

Continuing Education Non-degree (Audit)

Courses may be taken on a noncredit basis at any of the AGTS course locations, excluding the online campus. Participants may join these classroom based experiences at one fourth the regular tuition rate. Audited courses may not be changed to credit-bearing courses in the event the participant chooses to pursue a degree program at AGTS.

The Church Network (Formerly NACBA)

AGTS is one of five training centers for The Church Network (TCN), formerly known as the National Association of Church Business Administration. Through the training center, AGTS offers two four-day professional development seminars each summer that fulfill the residential requirement for TCN’s Certified Church Administrator (CCA) certificate. For more information on the TCN CCA program, contact the AGTS  Office of Continuing Education or visit the TCN website at By special arrangement, these seminars may be taken for graduate credit at AGTS.

Note: Credits earned in the Continuing Education program may be applied to resident programs (see Advanced Standing
