New Student Orientation

All students who begin their studies during the summer semester should plan to attend the fall New Student Orientation.
It won’t be long now. In just a few short weeks classes will begin and we will launch into a new academic year. It’s going to be an exciting year at AGTS, and we look forward to having you as part of our community. If you are just moving into the area, welcome! I trust that your transition is going smoothly. I look forward to meeting you.
Right now, some of you may be wondering “just what am I getting into?” If so, you’re not alone. Many new Seminarians feel apprehensive and have questions as they head into this new venture we call higher education. The three most common concerns are:
- Can I “cut it” academically?
- Will I make friends?
- Will I be able to find a new church home?
Well, I want to encourage you in all three areas.
First, you’re going to make it in your studies! Most students find that while seminary is challenging, it is a meaningful and rewarding experience well within their ability. Our faculty and staff are committed to doing all we can to help you have a successful seminary experience.
Second, soon you will begin meeting the faculty and students who make AGTS such a great place to be! During your time at AGTS you will make friendships that will last a lifetime. More details will be given during new student orientation. You won’t want to miss the many opportunities to meet other new students and their families.
Finally, I guarantee that those who are seeking spiritual growth won’t be disappointed. One of the great things about living in Springfield is that there are a number of excellent churches—each one different from the next, yet all with the same Spirit! I encourage you to quickly find a church home. Find a place where you can grow, then prove yourself faithful.
Our goal is to help you have a positive experience at AGTS. As you get settled in, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give one of us a call. The Seminary has a friendly, helpful staff to assist you in the many aspects of adjusting to student life.
Looking forward to meeting you,
Jay P. Taylor
