Springfield, Mo.—March 27, 2008—The Society for Pentecostal Studies (SPS) honored Gary B. McGee, distinguished professor of church history and Pentecostal studies at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS), with the SPS Lifetime Achievement Award at its 37th annual meeting held at Duke University Divinity School, March 13-15, 2008. Dr. McGee was honored for scholarly contributions to Pentecostal studies and his long service in a variety of positions as a member of the SPS.
McGee is recognized broadly for his scholarly work and deep involvement in religious dialogue with other leaders within the Christian faith tradition. He is a frequent lecturer with the Overseas Ministries Study Center at Yale University and is an associate editor for International Bulletin of Missionary Research.
“It is a special thing indeed when historians not only record and interpret history,” said AGTS President Byron D. Klaus, “but also play a major role in shaping the future. Dr. McGee has achieved exactly that feat.”
AGTS is one of the world’s leading Pentecostal seminaries. For more information about AGTS or
