Springfield, Mo.—September 8, 2006—“This is one of the most exciting books I have read in years,” said Leonard Sweet of George Fox University. “It shifts our focus from doing church to being church, and promises to be a standard reference in all future discussions of missional leadership.”

Off-Road Disciplines: Spiritual Adventures for Missional Leaders, by Dr. Earl Creps, director of doctoral studies at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS), will be released in September 2006 by Jossey-Bass and Leadership Network.

Todd Hunter, national director of Alpha USA and former national director of Vineyard USA said, “If you are trying to figure out what is going on in contemporary culture, you’ve got to read Off-Road Disciplines. Creps not only knows what is going on today, he teaches us how to engage today’s people as well… The chapter on ‘reverse mentoring’ is worth the price of the book.”

In Off-Road Disciplines Creps contends that some of our most important encounters with God occur unexpectedly—complete with the bumps and bruises that happen when you go “off-road.” Becoming an off-road leader requires the cultivation of certain spiritual disciplines that allow the Holy Spirit to form interior lives, moving self out of the center so that Jesus can occupy His rightful place. Only this transaction holds the potential to shape missional leaders. He explores twelve central spiritual disciplines—six personal and six organizational—that Christian leaders of all ages and denominations need if they are to change themselves and their ministries to engage the culture around them.

Earl Creps, Ph.D., D.Min., a former pastor, ministries consultant and university professor, is a sought-after speaker and innovative leader. Creps will be interviewed about the book on 88.3 KWND FM on Monday, September 18, from 8-9 a.m., and will be featured in a 90-minute Church Communication Network broadcast on November 2 (http://www.ccnonline.net/ccn/OffRoadDisciplines2.htm). AGTS will sponsor a leadership seminar with Dr. Creps about the book on October 27 at AGTS in Springfield, Mo. (watch for more information in the mail and at www.agts.edu).
