Dr. Mark Chaves, professor of sociology, religion and divinity at Duke University, will present two lectures at AGTS on Thursday, November 15, 2012 with a Q&A session on Friday, November 16. Dr. Chaves is the author of American Religion: Contemporary Trends, the 2012 winner of Christianity Today's Christianity and culture book of the year. All sessions are open to the public.

The two lectures on November 15 will be streamed live online. Video recordings will be posted for two weeks after the event. To view these lectures live, users should submit the form below before November 15 to receive a secure link to the live stream and recording. Users who wish only to view the recorded lectures after the event may use the same form. The password-protected lecture recordings will be available online through November 29, 2012.

Dr. Chaves specializes in the sociology of religion. Most of his research is on the social organization of religion in the United States. Among other projects, he directs the National Congregations Study (NCS), a wide-ranging survey, conducted in 1998 and again in 2006-07, of a nationally representative sample of religious congregations. NCS results have helped us to better understand many aspects of congregational life in the United States. Along with the book highlighted above, Professor Chaves is the author of Congregations in America (Harvard, 2004), Ordaining Women: Culture and Conflict in Religious Organizations (Harvard 1997) and many articles.
