Missionary Brings Postmodern Ministry to AGTS

Joe Castleberry will present lectures on “Ethnic Revival: A Postmodern Missiological Proposal from the Field” and “Essential Postmodern Concepts for Post-September 11” in chapel on February 20-21. Dr. Castleberry is an AG missionary to Ecuador and graduated from Evangel University. He also received his M.Div. from Princeton and a doctorate from Columbia University.

AGTS Board Vice-Chairman to Preach in Chapel

G.L. Johnson, Vice-Chairman of the AGTS Board and pastor of People’s Church in Fresno, Calif. will preach on February 19 in a special service with the AGTS board and the new D.Min. students.

Fall 2002 Practicums

Applications for fall practicums should be approved and processed February 12-15. If interested, make an appointment with the appropriate practicum coordinator (listed on course schedule).

Attention Spring Graduates

The date for taking comprehensive examinations and the deadline for submitting seminar-quality research papers (if not in the Theological Studies Seminar class), and analytical reflection papers is Monday, March 18. Contact Lois Hubbard (268-1070, faculty@agts.edu) for further details.

Bible & Theology Departmental Lectureship

Ben Aker will present the lecture “Charismata: Gifts, Enablements, or Ministries” on Thursday, February 7, at 3:30 p.m. in room 114. A discussion will follow the lecture.

Stephen Lim wrote the teaching resource “United We Decide” published by Christianity Today/Leadership Journal in the Winter 2002 edition of Building Church Leaders.

Randy Walls represented AGTS at the Beyond All Limits Conference, in Orlando, Fla. January 17-19 and also visited the Southeastern Branch Campus.

Spring Dinner Theater, February 9, 2002

Counseling students are invited to bring a guest to the annual Spring Dinner Theater, Saturday, February 9, 2002. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. at Mr. Yens, followed by an evening performance of The Springfield Symphony at Juanita K. Hammons for the Performing Arts. Tickets for dinner are $12 per person. Symphony tickets will be sold separately for $5 per person with a student ID at the Hall box office prior to the show. Summer/Fall Preregistration

Plan now to register early during the week of February 26-March 1 for summer/fall classes. Packets will be available in your AGTS mailbox on February 22. Sign-up for an appointment with your faculty adviser beginning February 18 for registration week (see forms posted at faculty offices). Course changes can be made later without cost until the first day of class.

AGTS Rings & Grad Announcements

On Thursday, February 28, a Jostens sales representative will be on campus to take orders for class rings and graduation announcements (look for Deborah by the Admissions Office).

Summer Financial Aid Deadline

March 4 is the priority deadline to apply for summer financial aid. The final deadline is April 1. If you received spring financial aid, just complete a loan data sheet. If not, contact the Financial Aid Office (268-1028, loans@agts.edu). Requirements include:

  • FAFSA completed and processed by the Central Processor.
  • Financial aid application and Certification Statement.
  • Student loan data sheet.
  • Federal Stafford Loan master promissory note.
  • If interested, application for college work-study.
Apply Now for Fall Financial Aid

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid 2002-03 is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The AGTS institutional financial aid forms must also be submitted to the Financial Aid Office (contact Marilyn at 268-1028, loans@agts.edu). The deadline for all forms is:

  • March 4.......Fall Priority deadline to receive priority service
  • April 15.......Secondary deadline
  • July 15.........Final deadline

Please note that in order to provide the best service for students who complete the process on time, there will be NO EXCEPTIONS to the above deadlines.

January Modules

The “Ministry Development Seminar,” with Mark Bradford, Jay Taylor and Cheryl Taylor, had 15 participants.

There were 19 participants for “Spirit and Power: Foundations of Pentecostal Experience” with Robert and William Menzies.

Welcome back Ray Gannon! Dr. Gannon’s “Introduction to Judaism” module had 10 students.

Pentecostal Preachers Week—Conference Credit

The General Council will host Pentecostal Preachers Week, March 11-13 at James River Assembly. The conference will feature both inspiration and instruction for pastors and evangelists. A two and three credit elective option, HOME 640 “Specialized Studies in Homiletics,” is available with Stephen Lim as the instructor. This course seeks to enhance preaching skills through the observation and critique of outstanding speakers during Pentecostal Preachers’ Week, along with the reading and analysis of important books on preaching. AGTS Community Prayer

Every Monday night at 8:30 p.m. there will be a general prayer time in the AGTS Prayer Chapel. The whole AGTS community is invited and encouraged to participate in this time of spiritual renewal.

Prayer for the Muslim World

Everyone is invited to join in "Praying for the Muslims" every Friday at Noon upstairs in the Prayer Chapel. For more info. please contact Katherine Sobey or Ebby Anyamba at 268-1066.

AGTS Community Bowling

SAC is planning an evening of good Christian music and fellowship while you bowl at Lighthouse Lanes (350 S. Glenstone). This event is free to staff, faculty, students and family members. Watch for more details in your student mail box.

Art Extraordinaire

Do you have a gift of painting, sculpture, photography or drawing? We would love to display your work in the student lounge and “deck the halls!” The items should be framed and can be loaned to SAC to be placed in the lounge. Please make a small card with the artist’s name and the title for display. For more information, contact Kimberly Fredricks (266-1066 or 877-1704.)

Open Gym

Open Gym occurs every Thursday from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Come get involved in a game of basketball and/or volleyball. Contact Cheryl Adcock (343-8491) for more information.

Student Ministries Update

The Victory Mission Ministry will meet Thursday, February 28 at 5:15 p.m. in the Great Hall at AGTS. Contact Michael Ramey (866-8875) for more information.

The Nursing Home Ministry will meet February 3 and 17 at 2:15 p.m. at the Springfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Contact Sharon Erion (862-4649) if you would like to attend.

The Prison Ministry will meet on March 24 at the Federal Medical Center. Clearance must be obtained by March 1. Contact Brian Shearer (866-3424) for more information.

The Hospital Ministry will meet on Sunday, February 10 at 12 p.m. in the lobby of Cox North hospital. Contact Raquel Johnson (877-1714) for more information.

The Chapel Worship Team meets a few minutes before chapel on Tuesday-Thursday every week. Contact Jonathan Distaulo (869-9197) to get involved.

The ATLA database (“ATLAS Full Text Plus”) and the APA databases (“PsycInfo 1887-Current” and “PsycArticles”) are now accessed through EBSCOhost.

Scholarship Applications

Scholarship applications for returning students for the fall 2002 term are now available in the Business Office. In order to be considered for an award, your student account must be current. The application deadline is 4:30 p.m., Friday, February 15. The Scholarship Committee will notify you of their decision regarding your application on March 1.

Check Your Statements Carefully

Scholarships for the spring 2002 term posted to student accounts in mid-January. If you received an award for the spring semester and it is not reflected on this month's statement, please notify the Business Office (268-1035, businessoffice@agts.edu) as soon as possible.

Deferred Payment

The second deferred payment fee is due and payable February 5.

ID Photos

If you do not have an AGTS identification card, please stop by the Business Office and make arrangements with David Huskisson (268-1039, businessoffice@agts.edu) to get your picture taken. Your card will be processed and placed in your student mail box.
