Course Descriptions: Biblical Studies General

BIB 532 Hermeneutics
The student learns both principles and skills of interpreting scripture in terms of historical, social and literary environments, and the process of applying the meaning to today’s needs. The history of hermeneutics is also covered. A special feature concentrates on Pentecostal issues. Offered in the Fall term.

BIB 637 Current Issues in Biblical Interpretation
An in-depth study of selected current issues in biblical interpretation. Prereq: BIB 532 or equivalent. Offered as needed. Distance Learning (DL) option available.

BIB 640 Specialized Themes in Biblical Studies
A course to meet the need for inquiry into a specific area of biblical studies, such as a contemporary issue or the study of a biblical theme. Offered as needed.

Holy Lands Study Tours
The Seminary partners with the Assemblies of God Center for Holy Lands Studies (CHLS) to provide opportunities for students to study abroad during the summer term. The student can register for multiple experiences from the list below, earning a maximum of 9 credits taken during the Summer Institute and/or other CHLS Holy Lands Study Tours combined. Note: Through any of the approved CHLS programs, three credits may count as an alternative to either BOT 530 Old Testament Introduction or BNT 530 New Testament Introduction. The other credits will count as electives in the student’s program.

Further information about this opportunity is disseminated during the fall term. Students and faculty may apply for scholarships toward the Holy Lands Study Tour at www.holylandstudies.org.

BIB 635 Holy Lands Study Tour (Turkey, Greece and Italy) 3 credits
